“Thank you, again, Phineas, for letting me come along with you.”
“It’s my pleasure, Damara! Before we head to the Gorge, I wanted to show you something.”
“Oh?”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Oh my!”
“What do you think?”
“It’s beautiful, Phineas!”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“It could very well be the largest waterfall I’ve ever seen!”
“This is Montour Falls, also known as ‘She-qua-ga’. That’s ‘Tumbling Waters’ in the native language.”
“‘Tumbling’ is certainly an understatement!”
“Let’s head out to the dig site before the weather decides to turn.”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“We have to go through a cave to get there?”
“Yes. Well, a few of very short tunnels, really. You see, this is a very large and very long gorge in the earth that was made by ice and water during the last Ice Age. You’re not afraid of the dark, are you….?”
“Oh, not so much. I’m just so surprised by all of the different places near your little village!”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“And I thought the waterfall was huge!”
“We’ll see several of those here. One you can even walk behind!”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“There it is!”
*laughs*
“Be careful, you might get your fur wet!”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“So much moss! It’s like a carpet!”
“I like to use it for a nice place to nap if I stay too long searching around the Gorge.”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Here we are, Damara. I know it’s not much to look at, but you can’t imagine the finds I discover here!”
“I’m ready to start when you are. Lead the way, Phineas!”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Look here, Damara! I’ve found a beauty!”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

*gasp*
“I never would have thought!”
“See? It has both a full body seashell AND the impression of a sea urchin!”
“Wow, Phineas, I can see why you get so excited about this stuff!”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Can you help me with this one?”
“Help you? Finn, there’s nothing there!”
“Ah, sometimes the rocks can deceive. Let me show you. Grab that side.”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“It’s on the inside!?”
“Long ago this little critter became stuck in the sand and over time, that sand became rock. That’s why we find fossils inside stones sometimes.”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Look! I think I found one!”
“Why, that specimen is stunning, Damara!”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“I guess I’m a regular ‘fossil hound’ now!”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Such a beautiful grotto….”
“Come with me, Damara. I have another body of water I’d like to show you.”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“It…it’s so huge!”
“This is Lake Seneca, the largest of the Finger Lakes. We’re at the bottom tip and where you see it disappear over the horizon is only the half-way point.”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Oh, Phineas, what a beautiful sight.”
“What a beautiful sight, indeed…..”
